The University of California, Berkeley, is endowed with the only free-standing Demography Department, as well as top-notch Department of Economics (2 active Nobel Laureates on the faculty), and the excellent School of Public Health and Goldman School of Public Policy. Beyond that, our faculty affiliates span across many disciplines, covering biodemography, environmental health and population, social networks, and more. Given this wealth of scholarly power, the Berkeley Population Center seeks to tap into these strengths by fostering interdisciplinary research in population studies. Through our pilot grants and external grant support, BPC brings together researchers and students whose work contributes to the BPC's four signature themes of:
